MPC master to DR-202, Ensoniq ZR76 slaves

Alright, I've been using these things separately for years. Never hooked them up together via MIDI. I'm not too sure what setup would be most convenient for me as far as MIDI goes. What I'm thinking of doing is maybe dump all the sounds of my DR-202 drum machine and Ensoniq ZR-76 keyboard into my MPC2KXL, but I'm assuming that means I'd have to do that each time I boot them up and even possibly save the patterns from each device? I followed the Akai manual on dumping but am unable to press RQST in the dump screen even though the Device IDs match (the F function for RQST is white not black). What am I not setting up properly?

Or would it be more convenient to use one or the other as a master of all 3?
Any suggestions on how I should set these up for optimum usage of all their capabilities? Get as easy or complex as you can, I just want to use these as many which ways as possible (since this crap ain't cheap).

I'd use the MPC as a master & the other two as slaves via midi.

If you can switch off a setting, probably called "local", in the keyboard so it sends out midi information without playing the internal sound you should then have a midi out from that going into the MPC as your controller keyboard.

If this kit was mine I'd sell the DR202 after sampling the best sounds from it & get an effects unit or two.

but....the DR-202 is my baby It was my first piece of gear haha...
If the MPC were to me my master, would I be able to track the sounds coming from my DR-202 and/or keyboard? Meaning, will the MPC only control 1 sound at a time (in a given session) or will it I be to program it to, say, track one for a piano sound in my keyboard, track 2 for a string sound from the same keyboard, track 3 on a DR-202 drum kit, etc...

The MPC will be able to play the DR202 & as many different sounds on the keyboard as you can have at the same time, plus its own samples too. You've got 2 midi outputs & midi works on 16 different channels, so you could have up to 32 different pieces of equipment being played by the MPC....if you had a lot of money & a big mixer.

use the mpc's sequencer.. it blows all over the dr 202's. it will be easier to just send midi from your mpc to play sequences u programmed on the external gear.. u wont have to load upa shit load of sounds every time u wanna bang that box. just the midi files that contain the patterns. so essentially the dr202 will just be a external module same with the Ensoniq ZR-76.

I have an mpc 1000 and a dr-202. I want to use midi patterns on the mpc to trigger sounds on the dr-202. Any idea how to do this? I've set up the mpc as the master and the 202 as the slate- when I press play on the mpc the 202 starts to play, which is easy enough. But the 202 doesn't play the mpc pattern- it plays whatever pattern is loaded up on the it. I thought I'd be clever and switch to a blank user pattern but alas, the 202 plays nothing at all. Any suggestions?

To be sure it wasn't a strange midi pattern with no correlated midi notes, I recorded a few patterns from the dr-202 onto the mpc. When I run these recorded midi patterns back into the mpc I still get no response from the 202 other than stop/start.

you need to set the right MIDI channel in the DR202 or in the MPC so that they're both the same... the DR202 is probably set to Channel 10 by default, but just go into the MIDI menu and switch it to whatever MIDI channel you're sending from the MPC.

dr 202 was my first peice of gear 2! love the buttery smooth bass and the unit has a hiss 2 it that is pretty dope if u like grimy dirty beats! ..... its been a while but im pretty sure by default the dr 202 midi channels is 1 for the drums and 2 for the bass .... hookin up a midi keyboard to the 202 is the shit u can realy get into the bass sounds this way insted of doing them on the machines pads u get the full spread of the keys! ... no having to maulaly switch octaves
