i just updated the OS on my 2000xl. is there a way of keeping the new OS on the internal flash rom rather than having to load it from my zip disk each time?
Once you have installed the OS, it loads from the resident memory, not from the disk. So, there's no need to put it onto F-ROM. If OS1.14 isn't the operating system that is in use when the ZIP disk isn't inserted, then it's not installed at all.
Boot up without the ZIP disk and then go SHIFT->OTHER(NumericKey8)->VER.(F3). That will tell you whether you are using OS1.14 or not. It's hard to tell, because it looks the same as the old one, pretty much.

Could you just explain simply how to actually load the new OS into an XL and keep it there.

hell, i got the same problem: installed the new os 1.14. now everytime i want to boot the mpc asks for a mpc2000xl disk.
could someone please help me with that. thanks!

All the XL's I've played with have never done that what you talking.
Load up disk is not needed. Maybe you downloaded an already corrupt OS.

i got mine from the akai-pro download page. nothing helps and it just sucks if someone else got an idea, please shed some light

You should extract the file directly to the floppy without extracting to your HD.
