Is it possible to this? I've tried assigning a pad with no sound so it negates the pad with the drum loop; but it still does this long pause before it gets around to the beginning of the loop again.

I'm aware of the method where you use a 3 channel mixer and multiple drum machines; you have one machine with the drum loop on one channel of the mixer and another channel with keys/etc and you do the drops by bringing down the fader. I don't have that gear yet tho..

Maybe possible to assign q-link slider to track volume? Not sure on your machine / OS

Or you can automate/record the volume fader in the mixer section to mute the loop, just like a dj does with his mixer.

It's a pity that it's not possible to tweak parameters in real time in the mpc2000xl. I use a S3000xl sampler as well. With that it's possible to record volume/pan/pitch/filter automation in the mpc. That works really cool. Although the editting in the Stepedit is bit of a pain. If I do something wrong I'll just re-record it. Great for intros/outros/breakdown stuff.

No thats not possible with the 2000. You can record mixerchanges but it won't change the volume of the actual playing drumloop in realtime.

peace

if you want a one beat rest or whatever i think you have to chop your loop and basically sequence it to fake the drop.
