Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

It works but only with an internal SCSI card reader to transfer files to and from MPC and PC. I got my 2000XL to work via SCSI with WinXP but it's complicated to figure it out and get it running properly.

I heard of it being done years ago, when they were still new.

I don't think it is designed to be connected directly to a PC, in the same way that other samplers include SMIDI (SCSI-MIDI) sample transfer, to transfer samples directly from an editor application on the PC into the sampler memory over SCSI. Those other samplers are designed to operate with a PC on the same SCSI bus, I think that the MPC is designed to be the only/single SCSI host on the bus.

So, I think, you can only use a shared SCSI drive between the MPC and the PC.

Should be OK, in terms of the SCSI connection, as long as you can ensure the MPC and PC do not access the drive at the same time, that the MPC/drive/PC have different SCSI IDs, and both ends of the SCSI bus are terminated.

Not sure I would trust it not to corrupt my MPC data though, you would want to have a different method of backing up anything important, in case it trashed the shared drive.

I think it is much safer to have separate drives in the MPC and PC, and transfer between them using a separate transfer disk.
