Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By auscience Mon Feb 17, 2014 12:02 am
For as long as I've had my 2000XL I've never seen the SMPTE work. I never really cared, but recently I got another 2000XL which reminds me that the SMPTE on my first one doesn't work. I looked inside both of them and notice that there is a chip on the motherboard of my new XL that is not in the old one. Anyone know if that could be the reason assuming that the SMPTE child boards are good working order? I would simply post pics of what I'm talkin about but I've put them back together already. I can post the pics later if necessary.

yeah the smpte I believe is a chip you needed to install, but the jacks were present from the factory. You should be able to find the expansion for not too expensive on ebay and you install it on the other machine.

That is correct. Most 2000XLs came without the chip installed. It was an optional extra.

You can also find the smpte board for the 2k classic cheap sometimes.
The chip in that is exactly the same. Just hoik it out from it's socket and fit it in your XL.
