Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By apollo19 Sat Apr 19, 2014 8:29 pm
I just recently bought a mpc 2000xl off of ebay.
It's in great shape, however I noticed that the backlight seems to be turned off.
So I wonder...

1. is there a way to turn the backlight on?
(OR) 2. is it automatically supposed to be on (on a working mpc2000xl) and if thats the case how should one go about fixing a broken lcd backlight?

appreciate the help ahead of time, and please excuse the rookie question :?

Could be either the backlight inverter or CCFL tube. I've seen both fail before so it could be either.

If you have a multimeter you can measure the output of the inverter to see if it is still working.

If you don't have a multimeter, you may just want to purchase an inverter off eBay, there are some used ones for sale for cheap on eBay.

If the CCFL tube needs to be replaced you would have to solder the leads. It is not the easiest thing to replace for a novice but possible. Mouser sells replacement tubes. The part number is BF3100-20B. Other electronics places may sell them it depends on your preference.

assuming that it is the inverter (just checked, it is relatively cheap to buy one), how would one go about replacing it?
