Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

So I tried to load up one of my zips and there was an error. I took my mpc apart and noticed that the smaller connection to the zip drive was messed up. It was a little ripped already and when I took it off it just ripped apart. Can anyone guide me on how to fix this? What part do I need to buy to fix this problem?

So I've been looking around @MPC Stuff and the replacement parts to fix my zip drive are WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. I did some searching around ebay for some cheaper alternatives. My biggest issue now is finding a cable that is compatible with my zip drive.

This is the part I found: http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-Pin-Molex-to- ... 4897.l5661

From the last time I opened up my 2XL I remember the connection to the PCP board was different. It was the 2 single wires (covered in blue electrical tape I believe?) hooked up to this contact point. I don't know if the part I found on ebay is the correct one because theres a white plastic over where the wires are supposed to be. I don't know if it'll fit. Can someone give me some advice? This part is way cheaper than what they have offered on mpc stuff and the one there isn't even guaranteed to work. I don't want to go through that pad sensor incident again.

Okay, so I ended up buying the parts and an extra floppy drive. I'm going to attempt to use the same power supply and data cable on the floppy drive if it doesn't work on the zip drive.

The mpcstuff part IS guaranteed to work. If you read more carefully, it's unverified CF drives (mcd) that are not guaranteed to work.

I see what mpcstuff is offering is a kit comprising of the power cable and the ribbon cable. I guess that is why it's expensive. If you already have a good ribbon, it seems silly to have to pay out for another.
However the power cable you are after is not a standard computer part.
AFAIK it is only used by Akai (on 2000xl and z series) and you won't be able to find it other than from a specialist sampler part dealer.
I think Cimple solutions in the UK used to sell them (I emphasise 'used to') and there was an Ebay seller in Germany that sold them until recently (for about £12 ) but doesn't seem to be on ebay right now.

The large plug is standard and can be found inside any older desktop computer that you find in the trash, but
Unless you can repair what you have...
You may have to bite the bullet and pay mpcstuff prices.

Ok. So I got that replacement part from mpc stuff and it doesn't seem to fit. I'm so bummed out right now. I feel like throwing this thing out my window.
