Step Edit Duration question?

Question regarding step edit and duration.....What I want to do is transcribe a jazz chart into the MPC. I want to put a drum track down, add the piano melody with my sound module, then put a live bassline over the whole thing when i'm done. The problem is i dont play a lot of piano so i cant hit all the licks....is there i way i can transcribe the whole chart into the MPC by using step edit? Since i have the chart i know were each note will go and how long each note will be but i cant figure out how to use the 'DURATION" setting......do the duration numbers have any relation to quarter notes, half notes, ect? like does a duration of 50 equal a quarter note? And if i transcribe something in at a tempo of 120, then i speed up the tempo to 160 will the durations still only sync with the 120 tempo? Any advice on transcribing a whole chart into the MPC would be very helpful.

I posted the same question a while ago and all I got was clicks. Please let us know is it a silly question?

Duration is the time between note on /note off. for a 1/16 note the duration is 24 so for a 1/4 note it is 96 and so on ...

Example for 4/4 music

If D=384 it will play for 1 bar, i.e 4 beats each with 96 parts per quarter note.

So 2 bars = 192

It does not matter what tempo your sequence is set to - if you set D=384 is will always play for exactly 1 bar.
