It's not a big deal, I think it's me and my lack of experience on a Mpc.
I've started chopping long bits into smaller phrases, and that helps with timming and stuff anyway.

So main screen stops sample playing in entirety too?

well actually changing screens (menus, windows, etc..) stops long samples from playing.. so if you play a sample in trim, then push main screen then it stops.. same if you are in other sections and push main screen.. but not from regular main screen pushing main screen.
