Location of faulty parts

Hi,

I recently bought an MPC 2000 xl with a bad rotary encoder, I replaced this myself and installed the 8 outputs card and i think i fried something on the main board as now i have no sound coming from my monitor outs or my headphones, I really would like to fix this myself but have no idea what the likely faulty component is or if it could be several things, If any one has any suggestions i would be very grateful.

try unplugging the 8 outs to see if the sound comes back... sometimes those 8 outs boards are faulty and cause issues like that.

also, do a search for the mpc2000xl service manual if you haven't already...

Already took it out mate didnt work and sadly i have no idea what those manuals mean, i know how to use a soldering iron, i have just bought a multimeter and am learning how to use that i'm a complete newb and cant afford the 100 pounds quote i have already had to fix it. thanks anyway mate

ah crap, that sucks... well maybe you can narrow down the issue to what section is fried.

Hey there! If your outputs were working fine before you did what you did, I think the first thing to do is to undo what you did (remove the rotary wheel and the 8 output board) to see if the outputs are working again.

IMO, it would be very hard to scrap something up in your MPC by doing what you did (unless you had to use an iron for the rotary wheel and really messed up).

However, if you really messed up with the iron, you might have a bigger problem than you think. So I really hope for you that it isn't what happened!

Hi, yes i used an iron but don't think it was that, i think i may have put the cable the wrong way round when i put the 8 output card in! have read it can blow the R1 fuse which could be causing my problems, i have ordered a new one and hope this is my problem! will come back with more info when it arrived.

Lets hope u havent blown the output transistors and other components in that section otherwise it could be quite complicated to get it fixed.
