Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hello everybody!

I've already had one laptop give up on me this year, so as I turned my new one, two months old, in for repairs today, I started thinking about alternatives for doing my music that'll work for more than a few months at a time!
I'm working on a hybrid of Alternative Hiphop (think Buck 65 or Sage Francis), rock-ish stuff (Clash and Bauhaus) with a bit of drum n bass, UK garage and Glass/Reich/Riley new music thrown in for good measure(!)...

I've been looking at hardware sequencers, and of course the MPC is top of the bunch. I can't afford a 4000, but my local gear pusher still carries the 2000XL (according to their website, anyways). I've only one question:

I know the sampler in the MPC doesn't do keygroups and other such things relating to pitched instruments (which I need), but as I already have an Akai S2000 sampler, I was thinking maybe I could sequence this excellent bit of kit from the MPC; that is, record things from a keyboard into the MPC and then send these MIDI tracks to the S2k... any thoughts on this?

Yep, the MPC can do that job very well - all MIDI messages are recorded and passed on.
