Aside from plugging my turntable on what else do I have to do to get sound from my MPC 2kxl?
Are you saying sound out of the MPC or into the MPC?
If you want to get sound out of it, you don't necessarily need a turntable. Just plug it into your speakers or amplifier.
If you want to get sound into it (sample), then you need to plug your turntable into a phono pre-amp (either a dedicated one or a DJ mixer for example) and then plug the outputs of the pre-amp/mixer into the MPC. Unless your turntable already has line level outputs.
