Is this a windows xp or windows 7 issue or do I have a bad drive. I bought some new disks and a usb Zip drive hooked it up to my laptop windows 7 would not format fat says windows is unable to format. So I broke out my old windows xp desktop hooked it up and same deal neither of them will format or read any saved data from my 2000xl. This is my first week with the machine. I have a cf card reader on the way and need to get the OS 1.20 on a Zip disk before installation. Is it possible that the drive just won't format or read???? This issue is making me angry. Hope I put this In The right place as I wasn't sure where to post it.

Yes all disks were formated for Mac. I put them in the mpc formated them and went into sample mode. Sampled spotlfy from iPhone chopped the sample. Saved individual sound. Turned of mpc and back on, loaded sounds, all good. So disks seem to be working. It's prob the reader I have a card reader coming tues and no OS to update. All I have to do is transfer the OS, the stuff I sampled Is jank. Just sucks and I hate that my only option is to order the $15 mpc stuff.com zip with OS and wait just sucks. I I got a ten pack of disks for that price. Anyone wanna be a boss and ship me one lol. Typing on a cell sorry for bad engrish.

$15 is not exactly breaking the bank - i'd be more concerned about the money lost on the zip drive.

you could also just use a regular floppy drive - likely just as cheap but way more reliable.

consider the $15 to mpc stuff just a token of appreciation for being the only reliable and complete source for keeping your classic gear alive.

I took the 100mb drive out of the mpc and put it into my desktop. It still wouldn't read or write. Looked at the cover of the Zip disk (10 pack $15) and it says formatted for mac. Didnt have a problem saving on the mpc. Had a feeling it was the disk so I downloaded a program called macdisk that has a free trial demo and reformatted the disk to mac+. Closed the program and reformatted the disk to fat. Downloaded OS 1.20, (free mpc stuff.com) extracted and copied to drive. Put the drive back in the mpc and uploaded the OS. Installed my memory 32meg ($15) Installed the card reader startech ($23) formated the cf card in a usb card reader($15$). I had a 512mb card laying around from 2005. Everything went smooth I started around 230 and with troubleshooting finished around seven, pulled an all nighter.
