Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hi, I am wanting to create a live techno performance with the MPC 2000XL.

I want to do something like this in these two videos but I'm not sure exactly how. I would like to use external synthesizers (the EA-1 and Novation Nova)

I want to hook up both the EA-1 and the Novation Nova to the MPC so that I can mute the channels individually, e.g Play a melody on the EA-1, mute the EA-1, then let the Novation Nova play a melody via the EA-1 as its sequencer. If that makes any sense? :hmmm:

Thats one of the things I'd like to do, but also overdub the first melody, then overdub the second, another melody, then play a drum pattern. Much like the first video below.

I don't know how to exactly set up the MPC so it does this, so if you could simplify it as much as you can, etc. Thanks

On the main screen you have Tr:01 - (unused)

Underneath that you have S:DRUM1:OFF Mew Pgm A

This is where you control what MIDI channel relevant to your synths you are playing back the recorded MIDI data..
You need to change DRUM to MIDI and then select which midi channel you want relevant to your synth. For example I use a Nord Lead which is 4 part multitimbral, so I just do this for tracks 1 to 4 selected the appropriate MIDI channel per track. I believe the NOVA is 6 part multitimbral so you could sequence 6 sounds at once..

So if your Nova was connected from MIDI out A of the MPC you would need to set up 6 tracks of MIDI setting the MIDI channel from 1A - 6A on each track

If you select the track field and open window you can then change the track name.. i.e. SqBMain

Then above the pads you will see the track mute button. When all of your tracks are named it is really easy to see which you are muting and unmuting..

Not really written tutorial type things for the MPC before as I only got my XL like 5 days ago so I nt exactly confident that this will make any sense : )
