Mpc 2000 and S3000

I'm using my Mpc 2000 as a sequencer
With a 5 pin midi cable into my S3000

Is it possible to make the note variation slider control the filters like you would with a pitch bend/mod weel on a keyboard?



I've seen a few videos by this dude Vinyle Junkie Who use's a mpc 60 and a S3200
If he's the same guy of Rave Fm, NOTTS , the man's a legend.

If anyone has any advise about any of this I'd preciate it.

no you can't assign the note variation slider to do anything over midi... it only controls the things in the box as far as I know.

The MPC2000 has an Assign NV slider to control change option. So MIDI CC's from 0-127 can be assigned to control a specific parameter of an external device.

Not sure, but the midi cc's only work the other way around. To send a midi cc from a controller to replace the slider.

I probably read the manual wrong. I tried it just before and couldn't get it working.

Get a simple midi controller (that has midi out, not only usb). You can control the filter with modwheel, aftertouch, pitchbend or APM (assignable program modulation). That last one you have to assign in global edit. That's also in the manual.

A keyboard midi controller is a good combo with the s3000. You can use that as a synth, playing the keys.

Agreed, I'd say just get a simple controller w MIDI outs, doesn't have to be anything big. Then you'd have my rig from 1998

yeah sadly that cc assign only lets external MIDI control the NV slider, not the other way around.

The coolest shit I have ever done though is get a yamaha MEP4, (MIDI event processor) with that you can select exactly one MPC pad use it's velocity as a CC controller or pitch bend.

Just bought a midi keyboard and set it up today.

I've got a disk of a load of old synth programs and they sound pretty amazing.
A lot easier playing it on a keyboard then trying to work out chords on the mpc pads.
S3000 sell for about £30 now days, I've had mine for about 14 years and it was second hand when I bought it and it still works.
S3000 are the shiznit!
