I have several questions regarding this.
While looking at the website for the Atapi 741 I couldn't find any sort of schematic, I was looking for one after I read the smarmy:
"yeah u have to custom power cable, but there are quite few tutorial out there explaining what to do... is pretty easy btw just need to relax and study cables"
This dismissive answer seems to only inflame the desire to kill...
I gather that the Atapi 741 uses a 4 pin Floppy power port. As far as a "custom" power cables I wanted to run by the community a few things that I researched in an attempt to reach enlightenment. It is my suspicion that one could use:
Dupont connectors 2.54MM? ( I have found that even the ones in the MOLEX connector can be taken out and cut down to size followed by some detailed crimping.
The power cable I believe, and I wanted to corroborate with someone, can be housed in a "4 pin DC power jack" to connect to the AKAI motherboard.
Snooping around work I found one that looks oddly similar(haven't confirmed it). I want to say that it would fit the motherboard as this is its purpose.

For the SD card readers,
Will any SD card work? If so how? are SD cards always shipped as a "fixed disk"
I am eager to learn if just any SD card will format down to 1GB. If this is the case it would be more cost effective than CF cards. It is my understanding that people in the computer modification community have changed the demand curve heavily in an attempt to use CF cards as Solid State Drives. The manufacturers in turn have resorted to sending out their CF cards in Removable mode. This scarcity has allowed other firms to move in on the consumer with exorbitant prices in an attempt to fill a demand they perceive as inelastic.
So will any SD card work?
What type of wire to make this power cable?
My understanding of electricity is nil. I am under the impression that copper wire comes in gauges and would like to know which one to use.
I was considering buying a Molex power cable and fitting the other side with Dupont connectors and replace the wires in the current AKAI floppy power cable connector. I am aware that 2 of these four cable are ground(in a floppy at least)
Does the Card reader receive power in the same 2 pins that the floppy drive is in? Would I need different gauge wire for the grounds(doubtful).
Finally which are the pins that receive power in the ATAPI 741, or any other card readers? same one? different? two pins? all four pins?
