Anyone ever give their 2000xl a bath?

So I'm a retard and managed to spill water over the MP, which at the time had a dust cover over it (big micro-fiber cloth). The weird thing is that I didn't even notice this had happened until roughly 24 hours later when I saw that the desk I keep all my gear on was wet.

Nothing else looks like it had water directly spilled on it, so I mopped up all the liquid off the desk underneath the equipment but then made the unfortunate observation that the cloth over the MPC was wet, so I lifted it off and noticed residual water around the pads and a couple buttons.

Underside of the MPC was a little wet, but not really that bad. I unscrewed the sides and lifted the top cover and saw that there really wasn't that much water in there, just a few drops here and there.

The thing though that troubles me is that the machine has a weird smell now. Keep in mind it wasn't ever powered on. I didn't take the bottom off but looked through the gaps in the front with a flashlight examining the board and it doesn't really seem that wet. I've got the MPC with a fan over it now and will keep it that way for the next 24 hours while it completely dries out. It's weird, it wasn't like it was dripping or anything when I examined it but it has a **** up smell now, like almost an acid/corrosive smell.

Anyone ever deal with water damage on this machine?

I would open it up completely to take a closer look andd dry it with kitchen roll (paper towel). The smell could come from dirt or so that is now liquified from the water. Like I said I would take away the case and clean it and clean the pads etc and dry it. Then take a sniff on the power unit Does the smell comes from there? This should be the only part that might got damaged by the water (If the MPC wasn't powered when you spill the water over it). And don't forget to pull all the cables before you do anything!

I was tripping like a mofo. My machine is fine. But this is a good lesson. I was researching previous threads about water damage, etc. I've had similar computer problems in the past.

Bottom line: If your shit gets wet, don't turn it on until it dries.

Worst case scenario, you get some minor corrosive damage, depending on the amount of leakage. Even with my luck I do plan to cop some contact cleaner and give the machine a thorough massage. I think it's worth it.

In my case I was in the process of deep-cleaning my carpet at the same time that all this shit went down, which made things even more difficult. The 'corrosive' smell eventually went away, and as far as I can tell it wasn't from the power (thanks peterpiper). It's some scary shit to face the realization that your shit may have got jacked. But with the proper precaution you can minimize damage as much as possible.

It goes without saying that preventing damage in the first place should be a priority. I got a new 'double wall' water bottle. And that's the only steeze I have in the studio. I even pour beer into it.
