You should be able to just load it but, bear in mind , not all card devices work with 1.14
I like partitions but they are not strictly necessary as you can use folders.

One advantage of 1.14 which I have never tested is ability to use larger capacity cards.
I believe 1.2 limits it to 2GB whereas 1.14 allows 16GB (partitioned).
I must get a 16GB card and test this.

I have 2 16 sd extremes that came with it when I bought it. but I have the issue where the mcp sees the atapi but gives me ?????'s when I try to save load and says there's no memory free on it. fml...I want to try this out too but I got some more testing to go I think.

Are you able to format a card?
If the MPC won't format it. try formatting it as FAT in a PC first and then in the MPC again.

also.... do you know whether the card device is hot swappable?
Try booting the MPC with the card in the drive and see if it recognises it then.

compact flash will always be the better choice when working on an mpc 2000 xl.. yes some people get SD to work however it doesn't seem in the long term to be as reliable from what i've seen on these forums.

I am not 100% sure, but I believe if a card adapter is actually not just IDE but atapi as well then it will likely work with OS 1.14 and maybe it will even be hot swap-able... but if it is a non atapi but just using the IDE interface then it will require you to run 1.20.

back when scsiforsamplers was around, he had 16 gig CF cards working with his adapters 100% (os 1.14) and he was testing 32 gig cards which worked but he wasn't 100% sure if it would work well enough to say they were compatible (if memory serves me correctly (pardon the pun)) but scsiforsamplers shut down his business unfortunately because he was really helpful with these topics here on the forums.

@mr_debauch I believe it has to do with whether or not the IDE CF reader has a a controller chip on it or not. The ones like the MCD for instance, and others that happen to read on pre 1.20 all seem to have a controller on board to handle all that. Those startech ones that a lot of people are using are just straight pin converters for the CF to read.
