Of course, you dont NEED midi cables, but it would be better for tracking purposes. If you decided to JUST record the beat into reason track by track your beat would be off. The hats would be at a different tempo than the snares and so on. Thats why you should use midi cable to keep everything in sync. MPC tempo of 85= Reason 7 tempo of 85. Connected with midi cables to keep things on time.

MPC audio out to PC audio IN
Set the BPM in your DAW to match the BPM of your beat
Main Screen, cursor over COUNT:ON
Hit Open Window
Cursor over COUNT IN:REC ONLY
set it to REC + PLAY
