Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

My USB zip drive (that I link to the PC) has just packed in & have been looking to go to CF for a while now so now is my chance!

Only problem is I am on 1.14 and I believe I need to upgrade the OS before doing so (let me know if this is right) but can't get the file on a zip now!

If anyone could post me a zip100 with it on would be doing me a huge favour, I've got loads of disks and will have 3 spare zip100 drives once my CF reader is in & would be happy to send them to a good home.

Thanks all!

Do you know if I'll need to 1.2 for that?

There's someone in the review section who said he's installed it on two 2000xls - after upgrading the OS

Cheers

I bought that reader a while back. Needed OS 1.2 to work but then shortly after that stopped working. Haven't managed to get it working again despite trying a few different cards/cables. Very odd, but I'd be wary.

I've got that StarTech drive also and it worked with OS1.14.
I've used OS1.14c (supposedly this was the BETA prior to OS1.2) with a Microtech PCD-47B SCSI drive, a StarTech/Addonics IDE/PATA drive, a Zip100/250/750 IDE/PATA drives and the ArtMix RaizinMonster SCSI drive in my "3" MPC2000XL's with no problems.

Interesting. Can you let me know what CF card you use? I've tried a few, including the 1gb Sandisk then everyone recommends and can't get any to work.

I've used SanDisk but I prefer the 2GB Kingston CF cards. They are dirt cheap on eBay if you get them by the lot.

Did you format your CF card in the MPC or on a computer as FAT32? if FAT32 didn't work did you try FAT16? Did you make sure the samples on the CF card are 16 bit?

Here is a CF troubleshooting guide from MPC-Hunter... http://www.mpchunter.com/compact-flash-card-troubleshooting/

From MPC-Stuff.com states "Usually the older compact flash cards work the best. We have found that ones that operate at 15MB/S speed and below seem to always work. "
