Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

i just installed an internal iomega IDE zip into my 2000xl. i had to splice the power wire from the motherboard that originally connected to the floppy, to that which connects to the zip drive. i had all the right settings, master etc.

i turned it on, the zip powered up but the mpc did not detect it. it said no floppy found. i ejected a disk from the zip and all of a sudden everything turned off.

it won't power up at all now!! with or without the zip plugged in the motherboard. i checked for anything loose and i can't get it to turn on...

did i blow something on the motherboard with the power usage of the zip??

please sombody help or give some advice.....shit.

The power usage of the zip shouldn't be a problem unless the zip is defective in a major way. My best guess is you wired something wrong, causing a short-circuit. Best case scenario would be you blew a fuse, worst case you blew the PSU or something critical on the motherboard.

Try to wire the whole thing back to normal. Check for a blown fuse. If that doesn't get you anywhere - take it to a repair center. Sorry.

At the bottom of the page.....

2. Make sure the ribbon cables are turned the right direction. It's not readily obvious which direction they go, but if the MPC fails to boot, try switching the cable.

Maybe this will help.

yeah mine wouldnt boot unless the cable was the right way round. instead it would come on with all lights lit...
