Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hey, I've been using the 2000 classic since around 03. I bought and sold a few on and off for various reasons but i never had any problems with them. They were always good and sturdy!

I recently bought one off ebay after nearly 10 years of not making music so i can get back on it.
I was mad excited to say the least! I had like 3/4 shoe boxes of floppy disks and zip disks to go through and sort to make a beat tape im working on.

Here's my problem!
Whenever i go to the mixer screen it just scrambles.
Loading full disks of progs AND beats / sequences keeps saying insert next disk, like it can't find the sounds. I can however load them individually SOMETIMES!?
The sampler seems slow at respondong to commands like when i press "do it" button for loading up stuff etc.

I've installed effects board and 8 outs etc before and i know my way round the sampler but this seems odd to me, i feel it's a bit poorly and needs maybe a good going over?

Now some of these disks are nearly 17 years old so i thought maybe the floppy disks had seen their last days, even though they been stored well and not near any strong magnetic stuff etc.

I noticed that i was provided with OS 1.72 and i seem to remember there was an issue with that, and the 1.70 was better?? My disk of 1.70 doesnt load either and the OS of that didnt seem to respond much better when i loaded it from an old ZIP. I tried copying the OS on to a disk and that didn't work either?!

ANY help appreciated as I really need this right now, im going mental same as everyone else in these weird times and this is a much needed escape for me.

I live on the south coast of england between brighton and portsmouth so if anyone knows of ANYTHING or ANY ONE that could help that would be a life saver.

Woof... if you know your way around... might be worth disconnecting, cleaning, and reconnecting all of the cables while you're off main power... just to see if there might be a buggered connection.

Yea tried today. Still having some issues. I think it's the OS. I used 1.70 before and never had any issues. This one came with the 1.72 and I don't have the 1.70 any more. Any idea how i could get it on floppy? I dont have a floppy drive or a pc...

My 2k has 1.72. It has a few bugs but I don't know if they're related to the OS or not. I'd definitely try to install a fresh OS on there. I'd also check the ribbon cable from your floppy drive to the board. Sounds like that could be be kind of ****? My 8 outs was shot when I first bought my 2k. It would just play horribly distorted out the outputs. Turned out someone broke the plastic connector on the ribbon cable between the board and the outputs and tried to glue it back together, but it never seated properly.

Best,
