boom bap á la premier

i finally started tracking out my beats on my pc (took me ages to figure out) & created a soundcloud.
i only use vinylsamples, for my drums, melodies, bass ect... all straigth sampled off records.
my main inspiration is dj premier and dubsbanger (youtube). i really like their style of boom bap. straight raw drums with dope samples.

if you got a spare minute, check out my latest beat. my other beats are mostly trash, but i dig that last one. trying to get some opinions and tips.

Well either you've come a long way or you accidentally stumbled into a solid beat. Regardless, congrats lol... but don't be afraid to tighten up, work on, or share your other work. Listened three times and here's my suggestions to take or leave

For suggestions...
Your low end on the kicks is okay, but if there is any bassline in their... well it's afk... I think a solid dirty bass stab would add a lot of presence and thicken up the track... just 16 level it and knock out something to play with the rhythm if you dig...

I know it's a short track, but was looking for some kind of more dramatic energy change either in your drops or build ups... you've got some simple things going on here... but like... a new high hat going a little faster, or just syncopated with the beat for example could be solid.

The keys are interesting... but I suspect you could've done a bit more with them... a little panning... filtering... something to make it feel like it's moving. It's a great sample, but it just has no surprise by the end of the track. Personally I would've flipped some chops there a few different ways to just see what sticks.

im still working hard on getting my kicks more present. i know im lacking the punch on them. i will try and lay some bass sounds under them the next time. its definetly a good point to work on.

i know those beats i make are monoton, and maybe not the most entertaining to listen to by themselves. i always immagine someone rapping over them (eventhough i dont know anybody how can rap lol). i feel you on all your advices, and will try them out next time i find a sample.

im going to put a link of a beat dubs banger made, which really **** inspired me to make those kinda beats. probably listen to this 50 times a day haha.
if you listen close, the kick snare and hat are slapping, but all he adds is that sample afterwards and it just works perfect. reminds me so so much of preemo.
