Link two MPC2000xl's (Master/Slave) for more midi outs

Ok I have two MPC2000xl's. I'm wanting the most efficient way to optimize the midi outs. I know how to use the midi thru's and mute 1-8 or 9-16 on the modules. But I want to use all the module's channels without the mute set-up. I currently own the following rack modules/keyboards and want have access to them.

Roland: JV-1080, XV3080, JP8080
Korg: (2) TR-Racks, Triton Classic, Z-1, Mirco Korg
Emu: Mo Phatt, Vintage Keys , SP12

FYI: I was running two seperate studios. So the two MPC's were at seperate locations. Now I want to consoladate to one studio. I've even thought about the sale of the two MPC2000xl's and get the MPC4000 with 4 midi in's and 4 midi out's. But if I sale the two MPC's I'll still have to pay an additional 500-800 dollars for the MPC4000. I'm not interested in software sequencers at this time.



So currently I'm seeking a set-up that I can optimize the modules/keyboards with the use of both MPC's link (master/slave) together. I know I'll have to a split module or two with the mutes. Is this even worth the effort. I want an expert opinion before I unhook my current set-up.

you can run 2 MPC's in a master slave setup but you will only gain one midi out since one of the outs will be used to link the 2 machines together.

That is pretty ludicrous. You would need 4 MPC4000's to do even that, so the MPC4000 isn't going to offer much help. I would get over it, chain the gear and use the existing 16 parts to share among the gear in that output. It is not that hard.

There are only a handful of people in the world that need access to nearly 80 midi parts which is what you are trying to do. 32 should be plenty unless you are try to score an entire orchestra using individual instruments (which I doubt in the case since I do not see any pro samplers in your list).

yeah dj shadow did that becasue he chops alot and he needed more then 4 programs. i would just cop a rack mount that has 16 parts. so that will never be a problem.

You are right. Actually I do consider my tracks orchestras but I understand what you are saying. I just thought I would be able to work around it. Ofcourse I'm not going to use all those midi channels at once or all in one song. I guess how I work it's just more productive for me. It's just time for the MPC 4000 anyway. I've always thought of the 4000 as overkill but there are times when you really need it more than you want it . Ofcourse the tech heads (which I thought I was) always have an answer or work around. Just like my man hecto said he heard DJ Shadow did this before or did he just use a technics 1200. I think he's down with MPC60. I think read that in Future Music back a few. ( don't want to give my real age here) Anyway the 4000 will be cool. I already have the instructional video. Even though I've use a MPC2000 since 1996 it'll be a learning curve there.

For now I'll try pt3r 's idea and have 3 midi outs.

Mad sad Mr. MPC3000. I do own the Akai S2000, S01 samplers, and the EMAX ll.
I wasn't trying to list my whole rig. And still not. Actually I traded a RS7000 and a VP9000 for that 2nd MPC2000xl Zip w/8 outs. Remember I'm a studio owner. Never claimed to be the hottest producer.

The Hook up... If you ever in Japan go to Hakihabara ( Electric Town) Tokyo. Ask for Softmap #10. (store) 3 floors of used gear. (Japanese are not as hard on equipment as Americans...the stuff is pracitcally new)
If you can't find it they got it.
