Roland JV1010 connection (MIDI) issues on Tracks with XL...

I have a friend who has a Roland JV1010 and we got everything connected via his keyboard and his MPC 2000XL. The keyboard does NOT have Midi Thru, but the JV1010 does. We have the keyboard connecting to the MPC Midi IN (1) and the JV1010 from A out on MPC to IN on the module and B out to IN on the keyboard. The problem is that although he can record Multi Tracks with Multi sounds on the keyboard, he can't do it on the JV 1010, the JV has a PART button and it has 1-16 for channels, but he cannot record multi channels unless he changes the parts button (1-16), thus only playing one sound SOLO only. The keyboard has local off and GM on, if anyone can help, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

The answer to this question, as we figured it out, is to use PERFORM Mode to REC and switch parts as you record on MPC. Peace folks, I'm Out.

Do you record the sounds from the JV-1010 into the MPC or do you sequence it straight from the MPC? I recently got a JV-1010 and have since realized that I can't sequence all of the parts at the same time unless I don't change the soundset which is a bit stupid. I am guessing that I am going to have to record into the MPC at home then take the samples out to gig with, is that what you are doing?

i got a roland jv -1010 and im sequencing with the mpc 2000 xl

and u have to make sure u have the jv-1010 in perform mode and everytime u use a sound on part 1 mpc's midi 01 and u want to use a diffrent sound u need to change the track on the mpc and the midi channle say to 02 and the jv-1010 to part 2

i can use all 16 channles of the jv-1010 using the mpc there is nothing wrong with the rack

midi "out" from the mpc to the midi "in" on the jv-1010. make sure the jv-1010 is in perform mode. midi "out" from the keyboard to the midi "in" on the mpc. from there just follow 2xlflife's instructions

Can you change sounds on any track while you are performing live? Say if I am using one sound on midi channel 2 in a track and I change into another track which has a different sounds on midi channel 2, will it work? Will it remember which bank and specific sound I originally chose? Sorry if my question is a little convoluted. I guess I am the stupid one.

Since I have a JV-1010 and a MPC1000 and MPC 2000 I figure I better help you out on this. Share the knowledge, right? If you want the MPC to remember the settings on the JV1010,, this is what I do:

I connect my midi controller (keyboard) going fromm it's out to one of the ins on the MPC. I then connect the MPC and JV with an out from one going into the in on the other so they have a two way communication (two midi connections.) Put the JV in performance mode, Create a midi track on the MPC for each midi channel and patch on the JV. Make your beat and when your done making your beat. Go to an unused sequence on the MPC and set it for 4 bars, name it JV sysex (or whatever you want), on track 1 set it up for midi Channel 1. On the JV, set it up to transmit a sysex dump. The screen will say "dtr" press the value button till it says "sur". When you get the "sur" on the JV, hit record on the MPC and then press the value button to start the dump. When the green midi LED on the JV goes out, hit stop on the MPC. Now you've just recorded the entire confiuration of the JV onto the MPC. When you chain your sequences together make sure that this sequence is first before your song starts. Now when you reload your song, all you have to do is make sure that the JV and MPC midi connections are in place and the MPC will do the rest regardless of what song you load. You'll never have to remember which patch was used before playing it. If you're not sure the information was recorded, go into the step edit mode on the MPC for track 1 on the jv sysex sequence and you should see a bunch of info as you tab in time through the sequence. Meaning, you may not see the info on the one. The information may be seen in the second or third bar. If you can tab allthe way through the sequence in step edit and not see anything then it probaly didn't take. another way to make sure it took is to loop the sequence, press play on the mpc and look for the green LED light on the jv to begin to flash. if it flashes, it's receiving something. if not, then no sysex info was recorded and you need to check over you midi cables and settings.

yep, change the pgm value on each track to send a program change to the jv or your keyboard may have -/+ buttons to do so.

My midi keyboard is just a Roland PC-70, so it doesn't have the capability to compose or anything, just to play the sound that you manually select. And reading through the manual it says that doing a bulk dump from the jv-1010 won't transmit the patch parameters. What do I do in that circumstance? Sorry, by the sounds of it this is really easy but I'm just too useless to figure it out.
