MPC2000XL - PC compatibility

I'm seriously considering getting myself an MPC2000XL to go with MY PC set-up. At the moment I'm running Sound Forge 5.0, ACID 3.0 and Fruity Loops 3. I have got a hardwars sampler in an old esi-32, but it crashes all the time and I want a hardware sequencer so I'm not locked in my bedroom with my PC.

How can you send samples back and forth. As I understand it the MPC's don't use WAV's. Do you just have to keep recording things back and forth, with the obvious degradation in sound quality that will lead to? Or is there a better way? The main reason for wanting to do this is for the ease of getting samples tuned up and at the right speed that ACID offers.

Anyway, any ideas would be much appreciated. Also feel free to try to convince me why the MPC4000 is a much better choice. I really don't know that much about the MPC series, apart from the fact that every producer I know seems to love them.

^wrong... the mpc accepts .wav files... as long as they are in 16bit pcm format.

if your mpc2000xl already comes with its own internal zip drive... then all you need to do is buy an external or internal zip drive for your computer... to transfer files back and forth between pc and mpc...

for me... i have an external iomega brand usb zip drive.

Sweet - I've got a Zip drive with my old ESI-32, so I guess all I'd need to do is put a scsi card in my PC and I'd be set.

Forgive my technical ignorance, but is 16 bit pcm format the standard one if you just record straight into Sound Forge using 44.1Khz, 16 bit stereo as the settings?

the reason why i included pcm... was i've run into some files downloaded from the net; that are in adpcm, and other variations of the .wav format... and they don't work....

but there's no need to verify that on each sample...

I also use, SF5.0, Acid4.0, Vegas Video3.0 and sometimes Cool Edit Pro2.1. I always record in at 44.1khz-16bit. That is the standard WAV.

MPC2k and 2kxl both read WAV files. I have internal zip drives on my PC and MPC2kxl. All work fine.
