is there a way to listen to an incoming sound

while playing a sequence? Or can you only go to the "sample" menu to listen to an incoming signal. I listen to different snares that I will be sampling through the input while playing a sequence. Can this be done? Thanks for your help.

You can not do it on the 2000xl model.

here that beat in your head and get your timing right....thats what i do...I'll make a beat and have a bunch of snares on disc and just go through and switch'em out until i i found one that pops just right....once you get use to it you'll be glad you didnt get the 1000... you can also chop up notes

Yeah, you can't access the 'sample' page while the sequence is running.

If you're using a (DJ) mixer there are various ways of hooking it up so that you can at least listen to the sequence and the sample source together. I pretty much always listen to the sample over the sequence before I actually sample it. My DJ mixer goes into the main mixing board as well as into the MPC and SP1200 (it has multiple outs), but there are other ways of hooking it up that also work.

Still if you need to lay something over a sequence in realtime (scratches for instance), you need another unit or a very good sense of timing so you can keep the sequence running in your head... Most people use multitrack software for this, but you could also do it with a second sampler or even something as simple as a metronome, depending on how far you want to take it.
