question about 2000

considering you can only assign one sample to one pad you can not fill each pad with a diff sample correct on the mpc 2000 ?

and if i have my midi controller hooked to the mpc will i be able to have each key and sample in diff octaves? and i cant scatter several samples on the keys?

Do you mean each pad bank with a diff sample?
And yes you can assign differnet octaves to different keys on a controller.

yea
lets say i chopped up a sample and want to assign each pad with a diff piece can you do that?

and the 2000 can read WAV? OR ONLY SND.?

Yeah, you can make several copies of the same sample and assign each one to a pad. Been a while so I can't remember off top what page it is but it's a pretty basic function. Also, after you chop it up you can make the pads cancel each other so you can quantize the chop and it sounds precise. If you want to get different pitches out of a sample you could go 16-levels, or put the same sample on a bunch of pads and adjust the tuning up or down in increments of 10. + or - 10 on the MPC is up or down one key on the keyboard so to speak. As far as .wav, in most cases the MPC should read .wav files, but there are some hybrid .wav files that may not be recognizable by the MPC. I'll get back with some specifics on the other sh**......

...Had to fire up the old battleship right quick...the 'copy' function is shift-5 where the waveforms are at. You basically highlight the name of the file and press 'open window' and hit copy at the bottom. This will allow you to make copies of a sample then you can assign 'em. The tuning for + or - 10 is shift-6 and then 'params'. Or you can hit 16-levels and select 'note variation' after you pick a pad. You should really check out the manual or download one cause most of this is basic stuff, but I don't mind helping out cause when I first got my 2000 up and runnin the manual didn't do sh** for me sometimes and I had to have a homie show a cat a couple things.

Tombstone is right,you can also go into assign Shift+6 and assign that sample/chop to several differnet pads.That way you can adjust the play/pitch/attack and decay.It gives you more control over the sound then usin' 16 levels.

coo,but you cant have several diff chops on each pad ?
its only one sample but in a diff pitch right?

lets say i chopped a sample and took 3 parts

one is (OOOOH)
another is (YEAAA)
third is :roll: (UHH HUH) LOL!

can you assign more then 1 diff sample to a different pad?
ohh on pad 1
yeaa on pad 2
and uh huh on pad 3

or just OHHH on every pad in a diff pitch?

...Aiight, had to read that a couple of times. Basically 16 levels allows you to only have one sound on all 16 pads with different pitches at one time. The only other way is to adjust the tuning on the params page up or down in increments of +10 or -10. This way you keep the sample in key, but change the pitch. You may be able to do it with an external controller, but off top I doubt it. The MPC assigns one MIDI note per sound so I don't think you can do the ASR-10 thing on an MPC with a MIDI keyboard, but I may be wrong...Hope that helped a little.....

ok thanks just wondering because i seen a video where the guy had chopped up a song and assigned each pad with a diff sample he was using the 1000 though so i guess the 2000 cant do that.


another thing i will transfer all my drums threw the zip disc right?floppy is only 1.44mb thats weak but i can use a zip disc which will hold more then 1.44 mb can i also put samples from my computer that i chopped on that zip? because if you can assign each pad with a diff drum hit then i take it you can put other samples on that zip and assign each to a diff pad?

If i understand you right.You're saying you want to chop it and assign three different chops to 3 different pads.Manual pg.128

You can transfer from zip to zip but you have to format the zip usin' Fat16.It would probably be easier to just get your drums and assign them to pads.(As many as you like)THen save all snd.That way you can have 40 differnet drums(if you like)ready to be pulled up at anytime.Jut make sure you name them kick,snare,etc. for convenience.I even made a drumsheet that names all the sounds and what number it is and if i really like it i made a note beside it for even more convenience.
