Hello Guys,

My friend just bought a Sony CDU 415 CD Rom Drive for his MPC 2000 not XL. He's trying to load sounds from the cds but the MPC will not read anything. It has ??????? marks where it says Type ??????? I'm not familar with the MPC 2000 because I have the XL so I really couldn't help him over the phone. Could this mean the Drive is not compatible?

I hope this question was detailed enough for you.

Thanks

No the Disks are 16 bit wav files. He just got the CD rom from a guy on ebay brand new who stated that the drives works with the MPC 2000 and 2000 XL, so I don't think it wouldn't be compatible.

I'll try to find out some more info on this situtation.

Thanks

It's daisy chained from a zip drive connecting to the MPC. He told me he was able to load all the cd roms that are Akai S-1000 compatible, but the ones that are 16 bit wav files will not load.

it should work, does the zip drive work?

I have this same set up and mine works. the zip is scsi 5 and the cd drive is scsi 4.

does the actual cd have folders on it? That might be the problem

its DEFINETLY a folder problem. Just a note: teh 2000 does NTO support folders. So it cannot read the folders. People who are selling those kits on ebyare big LIES.. Most of them. I would never trust a source like that for quality shit unless it came from known places like samle kings, etc.

You know what, the cds do have folders. I didn't know the 2000 couldn't read cds with folders. Yeah about the guys selling the cds on ebay, I got ripped off by a couple of them selling cds that's not the correct format.

Thanks for all the advice

I dont think the 2000 can read wav files. Thats the main reason I got the 2000XL.

The problem is that a mpc2000 classic can not read iso formatted cdroms (that's the format used on pcs). There is a link in the useful links thread in the newbie forum that explains how to make your own akai formatted cdroms.

I had the exact same problem w/ my cd-rom when I daisy chained it . I had 'em on different ID #'s and when I left 'em daisy chained the MP wouldn't read the cd-rom but then I'd (this is a pretty bad no-no) disconnect the connection the zip while the MP was on and plug in the cd-rom and it read fine .
