There are different ways of going about drum rolls, but I think you'll probably find the answer you're after by searching for it (which is often the easiest and quickest way to get an answer to a 'basic' question like this). If you search for "drum AND roll" (without the quote marks) you'll get your answer I'm sure. You'll also find the answer on page 3 of the XL manual.

are you talking about the roll he uses (like in "breathe")?

yes! i believe he does one of those in "breathe" and i believe he also does em in "freeway - how we do" and "fat joe - incredible,"

and im not just lookin for the simple tap tempo hold on a kick drum roll, i was wondering if someone could go in depth with the actual just blaze or heatmakerz kind. but thanks again, ill search.

try taking a snare or tom(or 4 differently pitched ones), pitch the same sample up on 1, at zero on the second, down on the third, and down more on the fourth, then its a matter of timing when you hit the pad, but go from the highest pitched to the lowest pitched with the right timing and you should get what they do.

while in play mode,,, hold down the tap tempo button and press a pad. youll hear it roll... adjust the quantize to get diff rolls.

pretty much... if they are pitched different or you have them in different levels you can add more flavor to it...
