Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

After I sample maybe one or two sounds onto the MPC from a Audio CD I cant sample anymore. By the 3rd time I sample usually the sample gets cut down to the first second of what I actually tried to sample. I need to know if my MPC can sample more or not or if its something Im doing wrong with the sampling process. How do I get more sample memory if its actually the MPC's fault I cant get more samples in there, and how much does it cost? Also, say theres a sick guitar pattern I want to sample but it has drums on every square inch of it, how can I cut out the drums so I can get a nice sample of just the guitar I want? Is there a piece of equipment made for doing things like this? If so, what is it and what type of it should I get?

Ok, but can I EQ from the MPC alone, or do I need to buy a seperate piece of equipment. If I cant do it right from the MPC what EQ should I get? Any specific type? Which ones will cut out more unwanted sounds then any other?

In response to your sample time question go out and cop two 16mb edo sim chips. If you look to the back of your manual it goes into more detail. Installing more memory is the solution to your problem. Also keep in mind that your MPC comes with only 2mb pre installed/factory built. However in the meantime try sampling in mono (Left mono or Right mono) instead of Stereo as this will double your sampling time from 10 sec of audio to 21 seconds. Also you will need to make sure and trim your samples in the trim screen. That silent part of your sample takes up sample time also.

to filer out sounds for the 2KXL, I use: a mixer and a pc. THe mixer has Eq, so I can play the song and eq it as I input it into my PC. IN the PC there are several options. If the signal is "old skool" stereo then both channels are not the same, use channel mixing to remove the unecessary sounds (as in drums) from the other.

If u cant do this, "parametric EQ" is in any soft program out there, and it allows you to set parameters (hence the name) for EQ, and set up the frequencies that it effects so you can, say isolate the guitar and filter as much of the lower (as in kicks) and higher (PARTS of the hats/snare) out. You prolly wont get rid of all the drums, but you can be craetive and use the drums left as a ghost note or set up your own drums so it "masks" the other drums. Dont expect to get it perfect. If you listen to some songs that sample famous tracks and they have removed drums and stuff, if you listen close you can still hear them, or at least notice the change in dynamics in the track, in short, they are still there, just well hidden with tricks like this.
