share my pain...

anybody else have this problem, please feel free to add your thoughts...
lately, i've been having a problem finding good samples. been in a real slump lately. it seems like i was doing better beats when i didn't know @!$# about production. Now that I know a few good tips and the direction i want to go, nothing seems to satisfy my needs. Any advice on how to get out this "hitless" slump?

I FEEL YOU HOMIE. I'VE BEEN A SLUMP MYSELF, THE ONLY ADVICE I HAVE KEEP SAMPLING KEEP WORKING THOSE HARD NIGHTS AND YOU'LL BE ALRIGHT.

What is your definition of a good sample...What kinda music you make...My problem is that I don't have enough money to BUY the records I hear in the store. What is your method of finding samples, do you record dig or just internet surf it depends on how you look for them, cuz I'm here in Chicago too and thier are tons of places...You ever been on the red-line "L"...Man it's someone play there all the time. I've hooked up a mic to my Nomad and recorded plenty of stuff and gave the performer a couple of bucks, man you just gotta open up some more....Or remix someone else's track online that you liked(I'm doing one now)/ Try acidplanet.com they're always having remix contest, I know you might not use Acid but at least you can do it opn the MP and snail mail it to them you never know.......Just my 2scents....

yo, peace! yeah i keep sampling, going through the chopping and laying etc, get a nice foundation and then scrap it cuz it's not what i want. right now i'm still using cdz to samp. but i'ma cop a TT in a couple wks. trying to decide which route i wanna go. Of course, there's no easy way to find good samples, there are some categories of records that are more likely to contain good and/or easy to use samples, though. Like musics from movies, for example (instrumental music with a lot of different atmospheres). Pay attention to the instruments featured on the records (Most of the time, they are listed on the cover.) and also to the release date the record. (For example, records produced in the 80s, have often percussions playing from the beginning to the end of the tracks, I avoid them if I can't listen to them first.)

Feeling the pain with you, I just can't get motivated. However whenever I can't get those tracks going I just sample my ass off and get to editing sounds on soundforge. Every once and a while I sample something and catch a spark. Maybe this is what you need to be doing. Approaching the block from another angle. At the very least you'll have time to zero in on some new chops.

as long as i'm not alone. this **** is frustrating. i've got a couple opportunities to summit tracks, but no product to show for it. i wanna take a break for a couple days, but i'm on the clock....
i gotta find new direction. chopping up a sample and putting drums and percussion over it is getting redundant. any input is greatly appreciated

Sound Forge 7.0 is my salvation for absolute quick chopping.
Cool Edit Pro 2.1 is a good one also.. A little more tedious
for me but same results..

how long has 7.0 been out? oh i know what i wanted to ask u lamp...
u have a post on this site or is it "your own" post. how do i get there, some of this is kinda new to me.

Sony took over Sonic Foundry desktop media software so they came out with a Sony Sound Forge 7.0 a couple of months ago.

So far I haven't seen a cosmetic difference, some of the options in the menus have changed though but not much, I gotta look around in it some more.
