attaching mpc programs to tracks&midi channels.

Please explain how to disignate specific programs to specific midi channels.

hey now, i've noticed no one has answered. perhaps this is a sign that no one knows the answer, thus if some one does, please take the time to educate the rest of us!

My understanding is that you can only use one program at a time thus it can only be on one midi channel.

The owners manual specifies that up to 4 programs can be used at once. It also says that the MPC-2000xl and receive up to 32 midi channels at once.


What it doesn't explain is how to route the incoming midi signals to specific programs. Thus my question.

To answer your last post, midi signals aren't classified under programs. Programs consists of sounds sampled into the MPC PERIOD. Midi channels are accessed via midi 1A- 16A per midi line out A and midi channels 1B- 16B thru midi out B. To incorporate midi you need to first run the midi cables from the mpc to your module or keyboard. If you're using a module without a controller just use the MPC midi out A or B which ever your preference to the modules midi in. In the event that you are using a midi keyboard/synth follow the same instructions as before with the addition of running a second midi cable from the MPC midi in port to the synth/Keyboard modules midi out. This allows you to use the keyboard as a midi controller as well. Pending on which port you use midi A or midi B adjust the setting on your main menu from program to midi A or B. Now because it is possible to have both the midi channel and drum program going at the samnetime be sure to switch your drum program to off.
