Working out what is what in midi loops

HI, I have just downloaded some midi files of popular songs to use as backing tracks for a cover band.
All notes and program changes are showing fine in the MPC sequencer, however, as these notes are not named, I have no way of telling say which notes are the drums and which are the piano.
Im probaly missing something, but how do I know which sound to apply to which note.

These midi files are most of the times aimed at GM (general midi) compliant keyboards.

So you'll have to check the notes and program changes in the midi files against a GM compliant module to figure out what is what.

Just play each track solo using a sound like a piano on a synth or module. It should be easy to work out that way what each track is....... especially what are drums.
