Note Variation

Hi, I know my question may seem a little amatuer sounding but thats what these boards are for...right? to learn and ask questions to develop and advance! Honestly I just bought my MPC no more then 1 week ago (October 12th) so im still learning the basics of the machine and yes I have read the manual! I have been producing for about 3 years now but using software (Fruityloops, cooledit pro, soundforge, etc, etc...).

MY QUESTION TODAY IS:

on the mpc......im trying to have note variation like lets say I use a violin sound....I want 6 different notes of that violin programmed into 6 different pads of the MPC!
I tried doing the note variation and adjusting the pitch to be slightly different on each pad but I realized that when I set the pitch differently on one pad, it resets all other 5 pads back to normal again...is there a way it's possible to make each pad a different pitch? or do I just have to sample each note I want straight from the violin source?

yeah, you have a couple ways to do this...the easiest way would be to use the 16 levels function. Hit the 16 levels button on the top right, it takes you to an option screen, jog over to NOTE VAR and hit the pad with the sound you want to us the note variation on. The second way is a little more time consuming, but you might use it if you wanted to time strech some of the notes so the length matched each other. You could copy the sound however many times you wanted and spread em out manualy on the pads...let me know if this helps ya out a little...

About that pitch, all I can say Is get really comfortable with the parameters screen...you can change the pitch as well as a lot of other stuff your gonna want to do to your sounds...

but basically, what u are trying to do, is no problem. i never seen one pad affecting anothers pads parameters.

the pads are totally indipendent from each other. so just go to the first pads parameter screen and change the tune. then go to the other pad and do the same with another value

What you're talking about is not covered by the NV slider, but either by 16 levels or mapping out the sample to multiple pads and tuning within the program, as speek was saying.

Again, set the pitch with the Tune parameter on the param page of the PGM screen for each given pad. Do not attempt to set permanent values with the NV slider. It's only for "at the moment" settings. (note variations...)

I think if you assign one sample to multiple pads the NV slider will effect all. you'd need to copy the sample and rename it for it only to effect one.
