updating operating system for internal zip

does anyone know if you have to update the operating system in mpc 2000xl before you can install an internal atapi ide zip drive. i took my model to a shop for them to install the zip drive but when they connected the zip drive it did not detect the atapi drive. is this because the operating system has not been updated. if so how do i update it? please help cause im going insane trying to get the zip fitted. i dunno what else to do

When you load the os it'll say what version you have.As soon as you turn the mpc on it should load.Try the akai site for the newest or better yet appropriate o.s.
