what is a good editing software for chop'n samples? any free trials out there?

you could use soundforge (by sony) it has an auto-region feature. I think recycle does the same, never used it though.

anything thats allows you to visually view the waveform and make selections.... audacity, cooledit, soundforge, wavelab, recycle. the lists goes on.

the mpc is perfectly fine. If you get your loop completly right just count the number of beats type that into the zone part and it automatically cuts it for you
