How important is a mixer in getting good sounding samples??

For example when i loop a break off an old record, I never get it sounding as good as i want even after tweaking the eq's. Could this be because of my mixer?? It's a Gemini 626 with 3 channells, hi's, mid's and lows on the eq.

Could be a bunch of things. Maybe the record is old, maybe your turntables need a cleaning, maybe your needles are old and dirty, better connection to the MPC. Also, keep in mind the 2000xl aint the best sampler around. It is the best sequencer, no doubt, but its sampling capabilities leave a little to be desired. That said, I get great sounding samples from my vinyl.


Also, in addendum, yes the mixer is important if you have a crap mixer with horrible old components with bad connections and stuff inside then you are going to get crap out. I use a Stanton SF-2L LE as a mixer and it sounds perfect. If you have a newer mixer, that shouldnt be giving you a problem.

If you can't afford a high end mixer (Not behringer.Mackie/or Digital shi!!!!) get a mic pre channel strip.

When you put your shi! through a high quality mixer your soundz are gonna bang!!!!!

I Used a D8B For about 2 years then moved back to the Mackie 8 buss but now I use some old 1985 Amek which is just amazing, also remember by you getting a channel strip you gonna have good Mic pre's which is a must to widin the input path plus a good compressor and musical EQ.

You will never get a fat sound with Shi! equipment, always get good quality .
