Can't get my MPC to function as a midi controller.

I've tried using my MPC as a midi controller in Logic before, no dice.

Now, I'm trying it in this program called Guru, same problem.

Here's what I'm doing:

I'm running out of Midi Out A on the back of the MPC into the Midi In of my soundcard (M-Audio Quattro). Also, I've loaded the blank program that used to be available for free on here (the one that assigns the pads exactly like that of a keyboard, i.e. Pad 1 = 35 = C1 on a keyboard, etc...).

So, I"m thinking I should be set from here, right? WRONG. WRONG.

That's my setup. Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong?

It should work.

- does the setup work if you use a midi keyboard in stead of the mpc?
- Check to see if the MPC is actually sending out notes. Use the midi monitor.
- check what channel it sends on, and set logic to the same channel, or 'omni' or whatever it's called.
- do you see notes in Logic's transport window? If you do it's just a matter of directing them to the right channel.

It always works with the midi keyboard.

Is the midi monitor the screen on the bottom right that shows you the note tha t your're pressing or is it something I have to open?

I'm guessing that if I can get things running on Logic, I can get it up on Guru.

when ypu are in the main screen of your mpc and you press the pads make sure the track type is set to midi A. otherwise no midi data is sent out through you midi out A, which is the one you use to connect your mpc to your soundcard.

I think that could be it. I'll try it out right now.

That program sounds good, how about sharing that? Haven´t got a 2k xl yet but will soon though and I would like to use it as midicontroller too sometimes.

I can hook it up sometime this week. Just have to get my comp up and running and I'll send a link out to you guys.

And, oh yeah: pt3r, you tip worked (although I'm sure it's common knowledge for some).

Happy to hear that it worked. Midi can be a bit tricky in the beginning but is quite simple actually, and useful, don't sleep on it.

Can you get anything else than the pads to send midi? Like the start, stop and record buttons?
