what is the meaning of this symbol ~

eg. i have a sample on my pc called SN_P_2
when i load it into my mpc it is called SN_P~2

now if i proceed to load SN_P_~2 into a program and then save the program with "replace same sounds" it will not replace SN_P~2 but will actually ADD SN_P_2 to my folder.

whats going on here? half my samples on the mpc have this ~ thing

when naming samples... there's an 8 character limit...
.
.
that means if you have a sample on your pc thats 10 characters and you try to load/save on the mpc... the mpc will automatically cut it down to 8 characters...

example...

qenetichat.wav <--- might end up being... like this ---> qeneti~t.wav

Yeah, that happens when you use a PC formatted disk in the MPC. I tell peeps that "I" always try to stick to 8 limit and they bug out on me like it's a crime to stay at 8, I tell em "that's just my steez though, you do as you feel". Also, CKRename is what I use to batch rename files. Look it up, it's freeware.

XKWEST, you have some good samples from that other post you put up. If you wanna trade and swap let me know, I got TONS of sounds. I've been collecting for a LONG time.. I got friends with alot of vinyl.

Tutor's is on point though. Me and some peeps been talking about purchasing these here on this site as well.

ok i understand about the 8 character limit (ill keep that in mind from now on while arranging my samples) but what about the "replace same sounds"?

i load hghghg~g into a program. then i save it but when i do that it WILL NOT replace the same sound but will instead add hghghghg.
