getting sounds from my mpc 2k

Hi, I just got an MPC 2000, used. What I want to do is be able to do is input sounds to it from both a turntable and my computer. Sorry if this gets complicated but I'm gonna explain my setup. So right now I have the turntable's stereo rca outs each going into an RCA->1/4" adapter, going into the MPC's "record in" left and right inputs. I'm going to go back to radioshack and get an adapter to turn those RCA's into a single 1/8" headphone jack (thats what I have on my computer, a headphone output, no floppy or zip drive).

Thats the input side, the output side is where I'm lost. I have two options for hearing sound from my MPC: my computer speakers and headphones. I've tried plugging headphones into a 1/8" to 1/4" adapter and into the MPC Phones Out and I don't get sound. I've tried plugging my the headphone cable thats attached to my speakers into the same phones out and it gets nothing. Am I doing something wrong here or is my MPC broken? Is there a mute option in the mpc menu I'm not finding? It didn't come with a manual so I'm a little blind. Anyway thanks for any help.

Have you sampled/assigned sounds to the pads?

Not sure if i hearing you correct but if you trying to hear sounds from your turntable u gotta be in the sampling mode cause you have it connected to your mpc via the Record in. Hit Shift and then sample. Then u should hear the sounds. Also if you want sounds from your pc u can record them in by hooking your computer up to the Record in or you could save the sounds as .wav files on your computer but since you don't have a floppy drive on your computer u won't be able to export them to the mpc that way. U should get a zip drive for your mpc and computer for transfering. I hope that helped.

I figured it out, I had no idea I needed a preamp to hear my turntable (yeah what a dumbass haha), but I just hooked the mpc up to my computer and its working fine now. Thanks for the help though.

I have a second question though.. I just noticed my startup disk is slightly chipped in one corner (I got this thing used). Is there any way I can copy the contents of the disk (including the OS 1.72) onto the mpc's harddrive and then load it onto another floppy disk? I don't have a floppy drive but I want to back-up the startup disk so if the current one breaks I'm not screwed. Is there a way to do that?

Nevermind, I just found the copy operating system function.
