Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

I've been reading here for a little bit now and i have some questions on a few things. (Sorry if these have been answered already)
1: Is there an online site to get MPC 2000xl ram and for a good price, i want to go ahead and upgrade to 32mb.
2: If it has an internal zip drive (100mb) do i need the ram?
3: Last, I have an iomega 100 mb external zip drive via usb, is this going to be compatible to the MPC's internal? Oh and i'm running Windows XP Home.

thanks guys in advance!

its cool, better you get it out of the way now then later when you plop down the $$$ and get a rude awakening...

1. you can get them anywhere for cheap, you can do a search for a store that sells them, or you can go to any computer store or music store and get two 16 sticks or one 32mb stick for cheap...just make sure they have a return policy just in case......72 pin simms will do....

2. yes. all the zip drive is good for is storage and transport of your samples and programs......it doesnt really have any effect on sampling times or anything-thats what you're getting the 32mb ram for.

3.no...the mpc can use atapi/ide internal drives and scsi external ones....the mpc does not support any kind of scsi data transfer or midi transfer(so hooking up the scsi port of your MPC to the scsi on your pc is out of the question)......for any more info just do a readback of any of the old posts pertaining to xp, or zip drives in this forum...theres a wealth of info here and it will save you time waiting for answers in the long run...

Also try downloading the manual and browsing the rest of this site if you havent already and Midicase.com(cop that mpceditor while you're there too)

1) i would say wherever you can get the SIMMS chip get it......DO NOT BUY FROM PPL WHO WILL SELL FOR MORE THAN $30 A SIMM CHIP(REALLY EVEN LESS THAN THAT,BUT YOU HAVE TO KNOW THE GAME)

2)YES, The 32MB is for internal, temperary storage....so that means the 2kxl will allow you to find 32mbs worth of data to store on your zip disk.....it is RAM not ROM...so you would need the zip drive

3)yes, files are files.......you just can't try to use an adapter to make the usb fit on your 2kxl........
