Any sampler can do what you need, including the MPC2000. If all you need to do is hit a keyboard note to trigger a sample every now and then, an MPC is probably overkill - you can get a cheap second hand Akai S2000 for that which you can hook up to any old MIDI control keyboard.
If you want to run loops and sequences, an MPC is good for live situations as it's reliable. but as a one-shot device, there are plenty of cheaper alternatives.
