MPC not transmitting MIDI (Digital Performer)

I have a 2000XL hooked up to my Mac through a MOTU 828 mkII interface. Running DP 4.6. I can't seem to get the MPC to transmit MIDI data to the computer at all. If I hit a pad, the MIDI In light doesn't come on. But in AMS, when I hit test, I'm able to trigger it. Am I missing something? Basically, I have a ton of drum samples in the MPC, and I want to use DP as the primary sequencer. I'd keep the MPC for the drumming, and samples.

in the main screen of the mpc make sure your track type is set to midi.

That's not it. It's a regular track. Remember, I'm sequencing with DP not the MPC. Effectively, I'm using DP to control the MPC pads.

is the track set to 1a for example
