Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

i've been reading the FAQ and posts on this site regarding MIDI to try to get this straight...

because MIDI only carries instructional info, not audio... does that mean i can only hear the sounds i'm using from my module only through my mixer and not directly through my MPC? i.e. when laying down a sequence using samples, etc. on my MPC... then trying to put sounds on that sequence from my module... i can only hear the "finished product" through the mixer and not through the MPC?

if this is not true, do i just have the hook ups wrong? i connected the MPC MIDI out to the module MIDI in, and vice versa, set the channels right... and now i can hear the sounds when plugged into the module. then tried to use AV cables to go from module to mixer... then mixer to MPC in's. and i can't hear them on the MPC.

still trying to get all these basics straight. thanks for your help.

The MPC sends instructions to your sound module via the MIDI cable. These instructions tell the module to play a particular set of notes, hence the sound will only come out of the sound module audio outputs.

Therefore you need to route your sound module's outputs to your mixer in order to hear the sounds.

The only sounds that come out of an MPC are the internal samples. So if you want to hear both module sounds and say a break you have in your MPC, both module and MPC need to be connected to a mixer.
