i have the Sly and the Family Stone drum loop of "Sing a Simple Song" to those who don't know it's the drum loop used by Tha Alkaholiks on "Make Room", Showbiz and AG on "Represent", Dr.Dre and Snoop on "Deep Cover"... and alot more other songs. My question is how did they mute out the horns and just have the drum loop the only audible thing? did they precisely chop it up piece by piece to make it sound like a plain drum loop or did they use some EQ magic to take out the horns over the drums?

Possibly many different things. Filters, EQ, Multiband limiter to name a few.

Or it's possible that only used one channel. (L or R) Just guessing. I'd have to listen to the song again to give a more in depth criticque.
