Card reader/writer compatibility

McSmooth, I already installed a card reader. I got the IISDMC, though not from the same place Indeks provided. I was just saying, going by everything they state on that webpage for the reader in question, I couldn't see anything that would imply non-compatibility with an mpc. You fellas obviously know something they don't.

Just because it "uses" the ATAPI/IDE interface does not make it ATAPI compliant. The hard drive in your computer uses the ATAPI/IDE interface and it is certainly not ATAPI.

The reason why this one gets brought up is because it is way cheaper than the others that do work (I believe there are 3... which are way overpriced). You can get a external 1001-in-1 usb card reader for about 10 bucks these days, so it sucks to have to drop 60. However, these atapi models are probably not mass produced as nobody (except us) have a need for them. The only reason I bought it was because someone on here confirmed the cheaper, CF only model, did work and assumed the better model would most likely as well.

I heard back from psism, and they do not cary any black faced IISDMCs and they told me to spray paint it (so maybe Akai does that themselves). Could have figured that on my own. So guess I'll have to go that route... or steal the card reader out of an MCD MPC

anybody know if theres a difference between transfer speeds (loading and saving) between the scsi and the atapi card readers?

Alright, man, that is making some sense to me. But looking at this page (where I bought mine), you can see that it repeatedly says "IDE/ATAPI Interface" in different contexts. But then again, it also says down the bottom in the left hand column of dot points, "Fully compatible with ATAPI removable/rewritable media interface and PIO mode 4.". I don't know what PIO mode 4 means but I would say this is more-or-less stating it IS an ATAPI (compatible) drive.
So yeah, I didn't know that there was a difference between the interface and the actual 'type' of these drives. So cheers.
