Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Ok, I've never had this problem before until recently when I started moving all my beats from floppy to Zip. I save them but when I load them up the sounds are different. Ie: the bass drum is coming from another program, the snare is too. Basically any sound with the same name as another in a different program gets changed. I tried saving the "Replace Same Sound" and it still seems to be loading up different sounds. What am I doing wrong?

Sound like you might have your DRUMS mixed up on the tracks.
Maybe you loaded them and didn't specify which DRUMS go to which tracks.
IE. the sequence plays but the wrong sounds are being played out.

Maybe you saved new sounds with the same name as other sounds?

Are you loading one pgm, or are you stacking 4?

I realized that was the problem. I thought that you could have sounds with the same name as long as they were in different programs. After hours of painstaking experimenting I found that this was the case. I saved all my Bass Drums as "BD", Snares as "SN", Hi Hi Hats as "HH", etc. So I got like maybe 5 beats left that I don't remember what sounds I used because they were replaced. That sh*t sucks. Well, you live and ya learn. I thought there was something wrong with my MPC. I'm glad it isn't

the time consuming but workable solution is...

bring up programs on floppy, rename the sounds, resave the programs on zip. I guess the editor program that was mentioned is supposed to streamline this...

You should try using CKRename to rename several files at one time (batch renaming). Do a search on the net for it, it's free.

100mb or 250mb is okay, more people have more problems getting the 250mb to work correctly though, some drives work and some don't, there is no explanation for it.

The MPC Editor program is a steamlining of many different functions on the MPC, it's quick, fast and painless, something that the 2k and 2kxl will impose on you at certain times.
