Adding Effects to my samples

What should I do to get effects on my samples? I have an XL and I know about the effects expansion board, but I'd like better effects than those. Right now I take each sample and add effects to them through Logic or Cubase, and then back to the MPC. But I'd rather have a physical component for my effects. What do I need?

Mixer for your eight outs, and a good rack mount fx unit.

Lexicon, tc electric........... These ones are pretty good.

Would this allow me to add effects to all the tracks in a sequence?
