i have an MPC 2000 & i think the disc drive is going bad. it sometimes does not read my start up disc and it also it makes some weird noises. on top of that my samples sound terrible now. they have extra white noise, mostly at the end -that was never there before. my unit is about 5 to 6 years old so i think the disc drive needs to be repalced. my question is if anyone knows if its ok to just go out & purchase a standard $10 disk drive & install it myself?? or does it have to be some sort of special mpc drive that i should probably get replaced somewhere professionally??

Yes you can. I did it on a 2000 model and also a korg trinity. Just plug it in and save your money.
